Presenters:

Sue Thompson, LSCSW, EMDRIA Approved Trainer and Consultant

Captain Jeff Bragg, Olathe Police Department

Early Intervention with Law Enforcement Officers is important to prevent PTSD from becoming a cumulative trauma. With this population, understanding the culture and core belief system of First Responders is also vital to successful treatment.

Presentations will include:

1. Captain Jeff Bragg with the Olathe Police Department regarding police culture

2. Jenny Prohaska, PhD, Police and Forensic Psychologist, providing a clinical perspective of what works and what doesn't when counseling first responders of all types

3. Sue Thompson, EMDRIA approved trainer and consultant, presenting the Recent Events Protocol with Roger Solomon’s Police Protocol, which will assist local therapists in helping LEO's recover and learn from their experiences in an effort to move forward in their careers.

Learning Objectives:

1. Become familiar with the culture of first responders

2. Distinguish between PTSD/PTSI and cumulative stress/ERES

3. Identify how department betrayal impacts first responders and PTSD

4. Recall the Four Common Clinical Disorders in First Responders

5. List Common Core Beliefs for First Responders

6. Incorporate skill-based Interventions for Containment (to do or not to do)
